Survey (digital on site)
The Ebertplatz has gotten national attention in recent years. In addition to an alarming number of violent and drug-related crimes alerted not only Cologne’s urban society with national media perpetuating the narrative of a no-go area in the city. As a result, since spring 2018, various initiatives, residents and working groups have joined forces with the City of Cologne to develop projects, concepts and events to transform Ebertplatz back into a popular and versatile public square. Although much has been achieved through this enormous civilian commitment, more efficient police work and the installation of camera surveillance, the Ebertplatz remains a crime hotspot and is confronted with many challenges.
We were invited by the Passagen 2020 festivals to present the findings of a previous Ebertplatz survey we had conducted in 2018 to the festival’s participants and gave them the chance to comment via audio message on the Erbertplatz’ development. Other participants were able to listen to the comments with headphones.
